Anti Submarine Warfare, OS2 At 18, Mangano joined the United States Navy, and made two Persian Gulf deployments where he upheld UN sanctions as a member of the Visit Board Search and Seizure Team (VBSS) while station on the USS Briscoe DD-977. John's specialty was Anti-Submarine Warfare where he was trained in the art of locating and analyzing potential enemy submarines. While on the Briscoe, John was awarded the Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal from William S. Cohen (Secretary of Defense) for actions of honor. |
